What's the Process?

All students enroll in the Illinois Virtual School through their local school. The student’s school (public or private) must be a partner school with IVS.

If your school is not a partner, you should contact your school administrator and counselor to encourage them to become a participating school.  You can also email helpdesk@ILvirtual.org with your name, email, phone, school district and building so that IVS may contact the school and help you create the partnership.

Process

Step 1.  Complete IVS Application  (one time only in the process)
Complete the Student Application using the step-by-step directions provided on the Application Process Help Guide

When the Log in page opens from the application link above, you must click the "If you don't have an IVS account, you may create one here link."

NOTE: You will need an email account to create an application.  If you do not have an email account, three free email account providers are listed on the page.  Students may use their guardian's email address.

Upon completion of the student application, an unique IVS Username and Password (or credentials) will be generated and emailed to both the student and each guardianPlease keep these credentials on file.

Step 2Review the Course List
Courses are available for Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer Semesters as well as full year courses. Please work with your parents and guidance counselor to select courses.  View Fall 2010 Course List

Step 3. Request A Course

Student logs in to the student information system with his/her IVS User Name and Password to request IVS courses.  Use the Course Request Help Guide for step-by-step directions.

Step 4. Course is Approved by School
Once a course request is made, an email is sent to your school's Registrar.  The Registrar must log into the IVS system and approve the course.  If you are a home school student, the IVS registrar will be approving the course.

NOTE: You will not be enrolled in the course until your IVS Registrar approves the course.  Please contact your Registrar about approval of courses. You will receive an email when the course has been approved.

Step 5Complete Student Orientation
When you receive email notification of approval, you may log into the course system two days before the course start date using your IVS username and password.

NOTE: Your course will not be available in the My Courses list until the scheduled course start date.  However, you can log in to the system and complete the Student Orientation found on the homepage.  Please print, sign, and return the Ethics Statement and Acceptable Use Policy to IVS when orientation is completed.

Step 6:  Access your IVS Course

On the course start date, log into the course system using your IVS username and password.  Click your course name in the My Courses list.

NOTE: When the course opens, you need to click the Content link at the top of the course page to view course content.
