Coordinator of Curriculum
Jennifer Kolar-Burden has worked in education since 1999. Starting out as a face to face teacher, she always had a special interest in ed-tech innovations to engage student learning. In 2003 she began to teach online with Illinois Virtual High School where she also became a content expert in Social Studies authoring four courses during her tenure. From 2003-2009 Jennifer taught Art History, Psychology and AP US History and continued to review and update course offerings. In 2009 IVHS expanded to become Illinois Virtual School and Jennifer moved into her current Director of Curriculum role.
At IVS Jennifer ensures high quality standards aligned content for all students. Major projects include ILS/Common Core alignment, Quality Matters and accessibility alignment, creation of Middle School Series, Credit Recovery program, and improved high school articulation including focus on Career and College Readiness, course development and strategic partnerships, including a separate credit recovery program, and has been the champion behind IVS’ strategic usage of data, marketing and strategic planning which has resulted in a tripling of student enrollments, increase in school partnerships and consistent 93% range completion rates since 2009. Jennifer manages all course projects and personnel, is responsible for catalog quality and alignment and is the point of contact for all schools in the Chicago city and suburban area. She still teaches one section of Psychology because she is truly a teacher at heart.
When she is not online, Jennifer likes to bake, read (real books only!) and travel.
